2011 IPv6 Summit.ca

The Ottawa IPv6 Summit aims at preparing IT workers, their managers, networking engineers, hobbyists and enthusiasts for the impending Internet Protocol upgrade. The event is hosted by the Telfer School of Management, at the University of Ottawa, and will take place on April 29th, 2011.

We want to reach the people who do the work, and those who make the decision as to when. By attending, you will learn the reasons why IPv6 is important, when it will become crucial to your organization, and how to go about enabling IPv6 on your network.

What is IPv6, and why should I care?

When the current Internet protocol, IPv4, was designed no one expected the rapid growth rate we see today. There just aren't enough IPv4 addresses for all businesses, home computers, cell phones, home appliances, and mobile devices, and for the last 10 years Internet engineers have been planning a replacement, namely IPv6.

IPv4 addresses near exhaustion. The Internet is moving to IPv6, since the alternatives look bleak. Are you ready?

Why come to the summit?

By attending the summit you will

  • learn about the IPv4 exhaustion problem and how it will effect the Internet;
  • gain insight into how IPv6 makes networking easier;
  • hear how other organizations have enabled IPv6 on their networks;
  • meet interesting people and form new connections.

Presentations:

The summit will open with a keynote by Owen DeLong from Hurricane Electric -- a name practically synonymous with IPv6.  Following the keynote, two tracks will present topics: those technical in nature and management/business cases. Various topics will be covered by representatives from well known businesses like Microsoft and Cisco, as well as key Internet agencies like CIRA and ARIN.

For more information on speakers and talks, see the Presentations and Schedule pages.

Please note that the schedule may change slightly until a few days before the event.

Final schedule will be announced soon.
